A free iPhone app has been launched by a North England Foundation Trust to help GPs find details for specialists and hospital clinics.

Clinical Information Xchange, or CiiX, which has already been downloaded over 250 times, gives GPs contact details and referral paperwork.
Dr Jane Lothian, clinical director at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (pictured) said the app enables “direct dialogue” between clinicians and specialists.
She said: “The app means we can find the right specialist to talk to very quickly, and most importantly have a direct dialogue to agree the most appropriate care for our patients.”
The practicing GP added: “Anything that makes it quicker and easier for us to make a referral to the right specialist is very welcome indeed.”
The iPhone app, which is available online for Northumbrian GPs, also provides specialists’ location details, referral information and service changes.
“We hope this app will empower GPs to make truly informed decisions on which services and clinics they are referring patients to,” said Ann Wright, director of operations at Northumbria Healthcare.
She said: “Our app means GPs can quickly find their way around our services, both in hospital and the community.”
