York CCG announces board appointments

An "ambitious" York CCG has appointed two new members to its board as it prepares to take control of an annual budget of around £340m next month.

Vale of York Clinical Commissioning Group has elected Alan Maynard, (pictured right) Professor of Health Economics in the Department of Health Sciences at Hull-York Medical School, to become Chair of the CCG's governing body as well as its Patient and Public Engagement Champion.

Former commercial executive Keith Ramsay has also been given the role as Lay Member and Chair of Audit Committee.

Former commercial executive Keith Ramsay has also been given the role as Lay Member and Chair of Audit Committee.

"The challenges facing the NHS locally and nationally are unparalleled; with funding being highly restricted and the drive for improved patient care and safety rightly intense," said Professor Maynard, who has 40 years experience in health economics.

"[In my new role], I look forward to working with NHS and local government colleagues in managing these challenges collaboratively."

The Shadow Accountable Officer for Vale of York CCG, Dr Mark Hayes, said the passing of the Health and Social Care Bill through parliament last week allows the organisation to focus on its last 12 months as a shadow body.

He also predicted the CCG will be among those first to be authorised in October 2012.
