Four new clinical champions have been appointed by the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP). 

Four new clinical champions have been appointed by the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP). 

The clinical champions will work with the college to raise awareness of epilepsy, chronic kidney disease (CKD), youth mental health and eye health until 2016. 
Epilepsy care
Epilepsy Care clinical champion is Dr Greg Rogers. 
Dr Rogers is the current Chair of the UK GP Epilepsy Society, the International League Against Epilepsy and scientific advisor to both Epilepsy Action and Epilepsy Bereaved. 
He is also a national adviser to NICE and has sat on a number of guideline development groups.
Dr Rogers has published several research papers and chapters into the role of GPs in caring for patients with epilepsy, is on the editorial board of Practical Neurology at the British Medical Association and also sits on the Personal Health Budget RCGP/DH task group.
Chronic kidney disease
Dr Kathryn Griffith, a GP from York is RCGP Clinical Champion for Chronic Kidney Disease. 
She is primary care representative on the Renal Advisory Group at the Department of Health. 
Dr Griffith was involved in the development of the 18-week pathway for CKD and was on the NICE Quality Standard for CKD.
Youth mental health 
Clinical champion for Youth Mental Health is Dr Jane Roberts. 
Dr Roberts is clinical senior lecturer in General Practice at the University of Sunderland and a salaried GP.  
She is chair of the RCGP Adolescent Health Group, the RCGP representative on the Children and Young People Improving Access to Psychological Therapies Programme  Expert Reference Group and a NICE Guideline Development group member on Social Anxiety Disorder.
Dr Roberts has been involved in research into community mental health initiatives lead as a priority and helped identify adolescent mental health as a neglected area of research and practice.
Eye health
Dr Waqaar Shah, the clinical champion for eye health (with a focus on aging) sits on the Department of Health Eye Care Strategy Group. 
Dr Shah has played a significant role in the development of GP Commissioning Guidance for Eye Care.
