The Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) chair election is due to be re-run with the same candidates, it has been confirmed.

The Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) chair election is due to be re-run with the same candidates, it has been confirmed.

A ‘technical error’ meant that Dr Maureen Baker was not appointed RCGP chair in February.
However, Dr Baker and Dr Steve Mowle (who was declared ‘ineligible to stand for election) have again put themselves forward for election.
RCGP chief executive Neil Hunt sent a letter to all RCGP council members on 21 February saying that Dr Mowle “did not satisfy the specified requirements for achieving formal nomination’ and declaring that Dr Baker was therefore automatically elected chair elect ‘in accordance with the college’s byelaws and governance structure”, according to Pulse
RCGP has confirmed that there were no further nominations for RCGP chair when the process re-started in March.
The result of the election will be announced at the RCGP Spring general meeting on 17 May.
The new chair will replace Dr Clare Gerada in November.
