The government is planning to deter ‘benefit-tourism’ by making it harder for EU nationals to claim benefits and making it easier for the NHS to reclaim the costs of treating people from overseas.
Cameron’s proposals will also target ‘health tourism’, meaning that non-EU nationals would have to prove they hold insurance before getting NHS care.
In a speech on Monday the Prime Minister will set out plans to restrict migrants from access to social housing unless they have been living in the UK for five years.
He will say he wants to create a system that is fair so that we support the aspirations of hard-working people who want to get on in life. Ending the something for nothing culture needs to apply to immigration as well as welfare.
