Health secretary Jeremy Hunt has held onto his South West Surrey seat, despite losing 4.1% of his votes from 2015.

Former Tory Government health minister Ben Gummer also failed to be re-elected as the MP for Ipswich, losing to Labour’s Sandy Martin.

Prime Minister Theresa May has said she will attempt to form a minority Government with the backing of ‘friends and allies’ in Northern Ireland’s DUP.

However, the DUP responded by describing discussion of an agreement as ‘premature’.

The election resulted in a hung Parliament, which saw the Conservative party left with 318 MP – 12 fewer than before.

The Labour party however gained 29 seats bringing their total number of MPs up to 261.
