NHS North Kirklees CCG has appointed Dr Khalid Naeem as its new clinical chair.

The experienced Bately GP will take up the role on 1 May, replacing Dr David Kelly, who announced he was stepping down last year.

Dr Naeem, who is also a partner at the Mount Pleasant Medical Centre in Bately, has been a member of the CCG since 2013, working as the clinical lead for medicines management.

Dr Naeem said: ‘I am delighted to be taking on the challenge of this role and look forward to working with local GPs, practice staff, patients and the CCG to ensure we continue to build on our vision for the population of North Kirklees.’

NHS North Kirklees CCG, which consists of 27 GP practices, serves 192,000 registered patients.

CCG Chief Officer Carol McKenna said: ‘I’m pleased to welcome Khalid to the role. I know he has a great deal of knowledge, experience and enthusiasm to bring to his new role and I look forward to working alongside him.’

Ms McKenna also paid tribute to the departing Dr Kelly, lauding his ‘huge contribution to the CCG’.

‘As one of the founding members of North Kirklees CCG, David has led us through some often challenging times and has worked to deliver our ambitions of high-quality care and sustainable local services,’ she said.

Dr Kelly will continue to work as a GP at Brookroyd Surgery, Heckmondwike.
