Oxfordshire appoints new chief exec

A new chief executive has been appointed for Oxfordshire clinical commissioning group (CCG). 
According to local newspaper reports, Dr Stephen Richards stepped down because of the “demands of the job”. 
David Smith will take over the role. He had previously been accountable officer of Kingston CCG. 
Smith has worked in the NHS since 1975 and has a track record of service transformation and financial turnaround in the NHS.

David Smith will take over the role. He had previously been accountable officer of Kingston CCG. 
Smith has worked in the NHS since 1975 and has a track record of service transformation and financial turnaround in the NHS. 
His current post includes leading commissioning health authority and adult social care as well as health services. 
Dr Joe McManners, clinical chairman of Oxfordshire CCG, said: “[David’s] track record in leading health and social care services and his considerable financial background mean that he will bring a wealth of valuable skills and experience to Oxfordshire.  
“I look forward to working with him to transform our health and social care system into one of the best in the country”.
Oxfordshire CCG has faced financial difficulties over the past year, with a forecast £6.1 million deficit this year and £6.9 million next year. 
Smith will take up his post in mid-June.
