At least five clinical commissioning groups (CCGs) have started 2014 with a new chair.
Through December and in early January, the CCGs of Hull, Wyre Forest, Western Devon, West Leicestershire and Fylde and Wyre appointed new chairs.
In West Leicestershire CCG, Professor Mayur Lakhani has been appointed the new chair. Professor Lakhani was chairman of the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) from 2004-2007 and has been working as a GP in the area for more than 20 years.

In West Leicestershire CCG, Professor Mayur Lakhani has been appointed the new chair. Professor Lakhani was chairman of the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) from 2004-2007 and has been working as a GP in the area for more than 20 years.
He is a member of the Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management, and was previously working with the CCG to improve end-of-life care and support for vulnerable older people.
Northern, Eastern and Western (NEW) Devon CCG – the largest CCG in the country, covering a total area of 2,330 square miles – has appointed a new chair for the Western region.
Each locality has its own chair and managing director, who sit under the chair and governing body of NEW Devon CCG.
Dr Paul Hardy, who has worked as a family doctor in Plymouth since 1995, is now the new chair. Previously he worked with the NHS Plymouth primary care trust (PCT).
Mary Dowling (pictured) has been appointed chair of Fylde and Wyre CCG. Dowling (pictured) has worked in NHS human resources management, including 12 years working as the director of an NHS hospital.
In the past she was vice char and acting chair of NHS Cumbria PCT.
Dr Tony Naughton, the CCG’s clinical chief officer, said: “Throughout her career, Mary has shown passion and commitment to the NHS and its values, as well as the public and voluntary sectors, and we consider ourselves very lucky to have her on board.”
Dr Simon Rumley has been appointed the new chair and clinical lead of Wyre Forest CCG.
Previously the CCG’s clinical lead for dementia, Dr Rumley has been a GP for 20 years.
And in Hull, Dr Dan Roper has been hired to replace Dr Tony Banerjee as chair of the CCG.
Dr Roper was worn in the area and has worked in Hull as a GP for more than 25 years. He has described himself as “passionate about improving the city’s health”.
He said: “I think we’re in for some very exciting times in Hull. It is a real honour to enjoy the confidence of all the GPs, and as GPs, we are very fortunate to have a dedicated and hardworking team of staff behind us, committed to helping achieve our aims to improve the health and wellbeing of our local population.”
