The winners of the General Practice Awards 2018 were announced on Friday, 30 November at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge London hotel in a ceremony attended by over 500 people.
Now in their 10th year, the awards celebrate leading examples of innovation, hard work and leadership within primary care.
Healthcare Leader is delighted to reveal the winners in the following categories:

Mental Health Initiative Award:

Respiratory Care Award:
Mount View Primary Mental Health Team
Women’s Health Initiative Award:
Women’s Health Innovation Team – Dr Helen Barnes, Dr Charlotte Knight and Ms Cathryn Bovingdon, Shere Surgery, Guildford
Diabetes Care Award:
Mani Dhesi, SDS MyHealthcare, West Heath Medical Centre
Commenting on his award, Healthcare Leader of the Year winner Dr Tom Milligan said: ‘It’s absolutely fantastic to have been recognised for the work I’ve put in to help my practice and other practices around us in West Yorkshire.’
Included for the third year, the coveted Lifetime Achievement Award was also presented at the ceremony.
The winner, Val Hempsey who is practice manager and partner at Bridges Medical Practice in Gateshead, said: ‘I have been given so many opportunities throughout my career by organisations such as Cogora, the National Primary Care Association and the Practice Management Network.
‘I’m thankful for everything practice management has given me and my family. I’m very proud to [be the winner of] this award.’
Congratulating all the winners, Healthcare Leader editor Nora Elias said the General Practice Awards ‘shine a light on the vital contribution general practice and the teams and individuals within it make to the NHS.
She added: ‘As the first point of call for every patient, general practice is an incredibly important part of the healthcare system, and the awards are an exciting opportunity to recognise the drive, innovation and commitment of the people who make it what it is.’
