New organisation Public Health England (PHE) will focus on reducing the burden of disease by focusing on conditions such as dementia, depression and drug dependency.
The body, which has replaced the Health Protection Agency (HPA) and the National Treatment Agency for Substance Misuse among others, has published its priorities for the coming year.

The body, which has replaced the Health Protection Agency (HPA) and the National Treatment Agency for Substance Misuse among others, has published its priorities for the coming year.
PHE will aim support families to give children and young people the best start in life by working with health visitors and school nurses, family nurse partnerships and the Troubled Families programme.
Other priorities include include protecting the country from infectious diseases, including the growing problem of infections that resist antibiotic treatment and improving health in the workplace.
Duncan Selbie, PHE chief executive said: “We will work alongside local authoriries and the NHS to ensure national and local resources are directed towards the areas where attention is needed most.”
