A new Code of Practice to help businesses and public sector bodies to share people's personal information appropriately has been published.

The Information Commissioner's Office's Data Sharing Code of Practice covers routine and one-off data-sharing events, and incorporates good practice advice for bodies such as councils, the health service and building societies.

The code looks at security issues, as well as giving advice on how data can be shared between agencies. It comes after the ICO consulted on a draft code back in October.

A summary checklist has been published in addition to the full code.

Information Commissioner Christopher Graham said: "The Code of Practice we've issued offers a best practice approach that can be applied in all sectors. I'd encourage all businesses and public bodies that share personal data to get to grips with the Code without delay so they can be sure they are getting it right."
