A contract worth £7.5m has been awarded to NHS Arden & Greater East Midlands (GEM) Commissioning Support Unit (CSU), which will provide services on behalf of five Essex CCGs over a three year period.
Basildon and Brentwood, Castle Point and Rochford, Mid-Essex, Southend and Thurrock CCGs will receive specialist support to cover their business intelligence services, which are set to be fully operational from July 2018, the CSU announced today (19 March).

NHS Arden and GEM CSU will also deliver finance and HR services to four out of the five CCGs, with NHS Mid Essex CCG continuing to rely on their own in-house teams for delivery of finance and HR services.
North East London (NEL) Commissioning Support Unit, the current CCG’s provider, will collaborate with Arden & GEM to ensure a smooth transition.
‘Successful track record’
The commissioning unit said it was chosen because of its ‘successful track record in developing strategic partnerships that deliver collaboration, co-operation and co-design to improve outcomes within a financially challenging and fast paced local health economy’.

The CSU – the result of a merger between Great East Midlands CSU (GEM CSU) and Arden CSU – now works with more than 50 Clinical Commissioning Groups, NHS England, STPs, NHS provider trusts and local authorities, it said.
