CCG uses patient feedback to improve services
4 April 2016

Patients are being urged to tell commissioners what they think about services at a listening café in Lancashire.

Staff from NHS Fylde and Wyre Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) are staging one of their regular drop in events to hear about good or bad service.

They said the feedback from patients registered with GPs in the area was “important” in developing its services.

The CCG has been running the listening cafes around its patch over the last three years as part of its strategy to find out what patients want.

The CCG has been running the listening cafes around its patch over the last three years as part of its strategy to find out what patients want.

It does not keep figures for how many people have attended the sessions, which can be varied.

Feedback also helps the CCG spot any need for changes to services.

The CCG’s chief nursing officer Jennifer Aldridge who leads patient engagement said: “Our listening cafes are an important part of what the CCG does.

“In taking the time to talk to our residents we understand what is important to them and this helps us to develop high-quality services.”

Issues flagged up by patients can be wide ranging, including access to GP surgeries or their verdict on hospital food or the discharge process.

The CCG said one of the issues it acted on was cutting the waiting times to be seen at the memory assessment service after users complained that the wait was too long.

Patients who attend the listening café events are also encouraged to think about joining the CCG’s influence panel.

Members meet monthly to shape and review services commissioned by the CCG and are asked to give constructive feedback about them.

The next listening café takes place at Clifton Hospital in Lytham St Annes on Thursday April 7.
