CCG reveals £150k cancer information service

A £150,000 cancer information service has been launched by Bolton CCG. 
The local commissioning group, together with the Bolton Cancer and Information Support Service and Bolton Hospice will be running the programme. 
The service aims to educate the public on risk factors and symptoms of cancer, as well as providing a counselling service, a benefits advice service and support the development of self-help support groups.

The local commissioning group, together with the Bolton Cancer and Information Support Service and Bolton Hospice will be running the programme. 
The service aims to educate the public on risk factors and symptoms of cancer, as well as providing a counselling service, a benefits advice service and support the development of self-help support groups. 
Dr Wirin Bhatiani, chairman of Bolton CCG, said: “About 1,350 new cases of cancer are diagnosed here each year and this innovative new service will mean patients and their families receive greater support through diagnosis, treatment and beyond.”
A Macmillan information centre has also been approved by the CCG. 
Leigh Vallance, chief executive of Bolton Hospice, said: “We are very excited about the prospect of working with the CCG and Macmillan to further develop and expand our services and play a key role in ensuring the people of Bolton have access to cancer information and support.
“We are committed to providing highly skilled, specialist, compassionate and holistic care and our involvement in this project will enable us to further enhance our patients’ quality of life and improve the accessibility and provision of vital information, support and guidance available for patients and their families.”
