Dr Simon Freeman, managing director of Leicester City clinical commissioning group (CCG) is to step down from his role at the start of November.
Dr Freeman will be taking on the role of chief operating officer for Greater East Midlands commissioning support unit (CSU).
He had been part of the CCG since it was formed in 2011.

Dr Freeman said: “I’m immensely proud of all that we have achieved in the last three years, much of which is already leading to improved services and longer, healthier lives for Leicester patients. It has been an exciting and extremely satisfying journey.
“The way in which clinicians and managers have come together to solve issues and redesign patient pathways is exactly what good commissioning should be about, and it makes it all worthwhile when you can see clear evidence of an impact on those things that contribute to the life expectancy gap between Leicester and elsewhere
“However, the opportunity to combine my experience as an accountable officer with my previous experience in analytics, contracting and performance is one that I would like to take. This role will see me operating over a wider footprint but still contributing to the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland health economy working alongside the existing LLR CCGs.”
Professor John Parkes, managing director of Greater East Midlands Commissioning Support Unit, said: “I am very pleased to welcome Dr Freeman into this important role. As chief operating officer for GEM CSU he will be instrumental in delivering the right support to CCGs across the region and his wealth of knowledge and experience will be invaluable.”
