CCG funds £2m urgent care centre
3 June 2014

Nottingham City clinical commissioning group (CCG) is replacing walk-in health centres with an all-in-one urgent care centre.
The existing NHS walk-in and the 8am-8pm Health Centre cost £730,000 and £1.32m respectively to run per year.
But the same level of funding will continue for the urgent care centre, as well as keeping the “walk-in” element of the service, according to the CCG.

Results of the initial engagement survey, which saw feedback from both medics and the public, have shown that patients would like to see x-rays, blood tests and treatment for broken bones available at the centre.
A spokesman for the CCG said: “We’re very pleased with the level of response to the initial public engagement survey and events carried out in April.
“We are now in the process of finalising a detailed report of our findings and will continue to work with providers, patients and clinicians to develop the specification of a new urgent care centre that will meet the needs of the local population.”
An online survey on the urgent care service proposal received 600 responses.
The responses from healthcare professionals and the public has helped to contribute to a plan, which will be further discussed when Nottingham City CCG’s governing body meet on 4 June 2014.
Nottingham City Council’s health scrutiny panel will also deliberate the proposal on the same date at Loxley House in Station Street.
The new urgent care centre is planned to be based in the city centre and will launch in April 2015.
A report called Outlining patients’ feedback underlined the importance of location of the service.
The report said: “In terms of location, it was suggested that the service is located in the city centre, near a pharmacy with parking and public transport are important with access for drop off/ambulance transfer being crucial”.
