Barnet clinical commissioning group’s (CCG) chair has announced her retirement from general practice, quitting her role at the CCG.
Dr Sue Summers had worked as a general practitioner for more than 30 years, but will retire in December.
Because CCG leads must be practicing GPs, this means she will also be stepping down form her role with the group.
She said: “I have really enjoyed being a GP in Barnet and my role in Barnet CCG. Although it is a new organisation I believe we have achieved a lot.

“I’m particularly proud that we’ve put new services in place such as a frail and elderly team that offers better treatment but also helps keep people out of hospital.

“I will be sad to leave all my colleagues and friends at the CCG, but there is a great deal of work still to be done for patients in Barnet so I am looking forward to ensuring a smooth transition for my successor.”
David Riddle, vice chair of Barnet CCG said: “While we knew that Sue planned to retire for some time, she will be sorely missed as chair of Barnet CCG.
“Under Sue’s inspired leadership, the CCG came into existence, gained authorisation from the government and has truly put GPs and patients at the heart of local commissioning. As a result, we have made a great deal of progress in improving the quality, safety, and accessibility of local NHS services."
Dr Summers joins dozens of CCG leads – including those from Wyre Forest, Hull, Lewisham and Haringey CCG – who have also stepped down.
