A wave of 19 hospitals have been given an extra £13m to fund emergency care over the winter months, the Department of Health has announced.
According to the DH, the funding has been given to improve patient flow through A&E during the hospitals’ most busy months.
This funding brings the total amount given to hospitals since April to over £90m, part of the dedicated funding announced in the Spring Budget.

This funding brings the total amount given to hospitals since April to over £90m, part of the dedicated funding announced in the Spring Budget.
In the Spring Budget, Chancellor Phillip Hammond announced £100 million A&E capital funding to ease pressure on emergency departments in time for next winter.
The DH had previously allocated £20.74m to 27 hospitals in June and £55.98m to 70 hospitals in April.
The funding will be used by hospitals to meet the 95% standard of admitting, transferring, or discharging patients within 4 hours by ensuring patients are treated in the most appropriate setting.
Philip Dunne, minister of state for health, said: ‘Thanks to the hard work and dedication of staff, the NHS has put in place strong plans ahead of winter – ensuring patients continue to receive safe and efficient care as demand rises over the coming months.
‘This funding will give more hospitals the boost they need to streamline patient flow in A&E, freeing up A&Es to care for the sickest patients and helping make sure all patients get the right treatment in the right place as quickly as possible.’
