Lifesaving bleed kits have been installed in six locations across Cannock Chase in Staffordshire.
The kits are stocked with essential bleed control equipment and are publicly accessible in the event of an emergency.
They are designed to help save lives by enabling quick action when an individual is experiencing severe blood loss. This could be because of violence, such as knife crime, or other major incidents like traffic accidents.
Should a member of the public need to access one, they dial 999 and are given the code to open the cabinet housing the kit. An interactive map highlighting the location of the kits across the county can be found here.
Councillor David Williams, portfolio leader for community wellbeing at Cannock Chase District Council said that they ‘go beyond first aid kits by offering specialist equipment to help stem bleeding and reduce the risk of infection’.
The six new installations are in addition to the existing bleed control provision and violence reduction measures across the district.
Similar initiatives have been established across the country, including London and Birmingham, over the past few years.
Bleed kits continue to be set up in communities with recent announcements coming from Rochdale, Oxford and Bath and NE Somerset.
The charity HeartSafe has a map that shows the locations of bleed kits around the country. It also has a map showing the locations of community defibrillators.
