A new tool has been launched to establish how developed a Health and Wellbeing Board (HWB) is in its aims.
The development tool, launched by NHS England and the Local Government Association among other partners, aims to assist boards in exploring their strengths and weaknesses, and inspire their ambition to develop a clear sense of purpose, as well as an approach which will help transform services.
Health and Wellbeing Boards will have the chance to evaluate how well they are doing using a “maturity model” which described the characteristics of a “young”, “established”, “mature” and “exemplar” HWB.
For example, while a young HWB has a clear vision, an exemplar HWB’s decisions and actions are “entirely driven by the shared vision”.
According to the document: “The leadership of the [exemplar] HWB has a relentless focus on its vision to improve health and wellbeing services and outcomes for local people.”
The tool is available to access on the Local Government website.
