Health Education England (HEE) has appointed Dr Harpreet Sood to its board as non-executive director (NED).
Dr Sood’s role will involve providing independent advice, support and scrutiny to the body and working with senior HEE officials on key policy decisions.
The London NHS GP, who previously served as an associate NED with HEE, has digital expertise and experience within healthcare, having co-founded and worked as strategic advisor to the NHS Digital Academy.
Dr Sood was previously the associate chief clinical information officer (CCIO) at NHS England and, prior to that, senior fellow to the CEO of NHS England. As the Associate CCIO, he was involved in developing and implementing NHS England’s digital health and data strategy.
He has also led on national strategies and reviews within the NHS and has collaborated with organisations internationally.
Dr Sood said: ‘I am delighted to become a non-executive director with HEE at this inflection point for the NHS, particularly given that digital technology is of such importance to the workforce and can provide real opportunities to make a difference and enhance patients’ lives.’
Sir David Behan, HEE chair, said: ‘Harpreet has recent experience of training in addition to substantial experience of national and international health care policy, and a demonstrable history of working on the front line with patients. This experience and his knowledge of digital technology brings added value to the HEE board.’
