A medicine management awareness scheme has been announced by one CCG, in partnership with local GPs, pharmacies and patient groups.
The ‘Need It. Order it, Use It!’ scheme aims to reduce waste by getting the most out of prescribed medicines.
Eastern Cheshire CCG revealed that around £3 million per year is wasted through unused medication in Cheshire. The CCG states it is “everyone’s responsibility” to get the most out of medication.

The campaign will be rolled out to every GP practice and local pharmacy during August.
Helen Bianchi, practice pharmacist from Cumberland House Surgery in Macclesfield said: “I am delighted to support this campaign. We want to encourage people to consider how they order and take their medicines to get the most benefit and reduce waste”.
Patient Participation Group representative Ann Green said: “We need to minimise waste where possible and I think that patients role in this campaign is very important and I urge any patient across Eastern Cheshire to read all the materials available within surgeries and pharmacies, as patients can make a real difference”.
