Pioneer programme shortlist revealed

Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly have been shortlisted for the government’s Pioneer Programme.

Earlier this year Care and Support Minister Norman Lamb announced that expert advice would be given to teams in the UK who show promise in integrating care

The Pioneers would then share their knowledge with the rest of the countries, to help them to reach that standard.

Integrated care should be the norm by 2018, according the Department of Health.

Medical schools, the council, primary and secondary care, charities and the local commissioning group joined forces for Cornwall’s bid.

NHS Kernow CCG’s managing director Joy Youart said: “Our bid represents the commitment of 15 organisation that provide health and social care to work more closely together to create a seamless service that people and their carers rely on.

“Our aim to do more to keep people well, confident and help them to remain independent.”

The winning bids for the Pioneer Programme will be announced this autumn.
