A framework to help patients and the public identify how well clinical commissioning groups (CCGs) are performing has been launched by NHS England.

NHS England believes the Interim CCG Assurance Framework will support CCGs to deliver high quality care that “meets the needs of their local community.”

A spokesperson said: “This framework will support CCGs to deliver, and will help them to transform local services and improve outcomes for all patients.

“It will be important that an interim process is in place to monitor CCGs during their first few months.”

The document outlines how NHS England will do so. Similarly, 'checkpoints' in July and October, will be used as pilots for how checkpoints could work in the long run.

The spokesperson added: “NHS England will also ensure that the same level of sruitiny is applied to its own direct commissioning responsibilities.”

The publication of the Interim Assurance Framework kicks off an engagement process with CCG staff, patient groups and other key stakeholders which will inform a final Framework to be published in the autumn.

The framework is available on the NHS England website.
