Youth HWB established in Northumberland

A youth health and wellbeing board (HWB) will be established in Northumberland to improve services for young people.

The idea came to Northumberland HWB chair Councillor Scott Dickinson when 40 students quizzed health and social care bosses at what was meant to be a consultation exercise.

Groups of people aged 11-19 will form a board to discuss, debate and influence healthcare decisions across the county.

Councillor Dickinson said the boards will be accessible to people all over the county.

He said: “The board has been established to improve the health and wellbeing of residents and to reduce inequalities by bringing together organisations involved in health services, adult social care and children’s services by encouraging better partnership working.

“Young people often feel that we ask them things and they never hear from us again. We would make sure we feed back to them by being part of their own board.”
