A CCG in North West England has introduced a practice nurse facilitator to enable increased training, education and professional development.

NHS Bury CCG claims the new role will “support and empower” nurses to lead change and to help shape care.
Dr Kiran Patel, chair and clinical lead at NHS Bury CCG said: “Practice nurses play a vital role in the care provided by GP practices, however, working as a practice nurse can be quite isolating, in terms of not always having the chance of working closely with their peers.”
A monthly practice nurse forum will also be set up, which will bring together all practice nurses in Bury.
Lesley Royle-Pryor, a nurse practitioner from Bolton, will be the first person to take on the role part time.
She said: “I am passionate about providing high quality compassionate care and improving the patient experience.
“Practice nurses play a really key role in delivering this vision, and through this new role I hope to raise the profile of Practice Nurses, ensure they have the opportunity to be involved in service improvements, oversee their learning and development opportunities and giving them the prospect to come together to share experiences and good practice with a view to improving health and wellbeing in Bury.”
