In their manifesto the Conservatives have stated that they will continue to integrate the health and social care systems, joining-up services between homes, clinics and hospitals, through piloting new approaches like devolution to Greater Manchester and the £5.3 billion Better Care Fund (formerly the Integration Transformation Fund).

In the manifesto it states that they “will support commissioners to combine better health and social care services for the terminally ill so that more people are able to die in a place of their choice”.

In terms of finance they have pledged to spend at least an additional £8 billion by 2020 over and above inflation to fund and support the NHS’s own action plan for the next five years.

Speaking at the manifesto launch in Swindon, Wiltshire, Prime Minister David Cameron said to the audience: “If you fall ill and need to rely on our national health service… we are there for you, offering security at every stage of life.”

By implementing the findings of their Innovative Medicines and Medical Technology Review, they say they will increase the use of cost-effective new medicines and technologies, and encourage large-scale trials of innovative technologies and health services.

They aim to hire 9,500 more doctors and 6,900 more nurses and ensure patients can see a GP and receive the hospital care needed, seven days a week by 2020 with a guarantee that everyone over 75 will get a same-day appointment if they need one.
