CCGS work together to lower foot amputation rates

Three CCGs have been working together to lower diabetes rates in Portsmouth.

Portsmouth has one of the highest diabetes-related amputation rates in England, with 4.3 amputations per 1,000 people each year, compared to the England average of 2.6 per 1,000.

By working with local hospitals, Portsmouth CCG, working with Fareham and Gosport CCG and South Eastern Hampshire CCG hopes to bring the figure down.

Changes include new ways of flagging up problems, as well as increasing the number of multi-disciplinary foot clinics.

Jill Steaton, Diabetes UK’s regional manager for the south east said: “We welcome the fact that the CCGs have promised to work with Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust to turn this situation around.”
