An alcohol awareness campaign has been launched by local commissioners to alert parents to the dangers of drinking alcohol while looking after young people.

Posters will be displayed in selected areas, with radio advertising. Adverts will also be printed in a magazine which is distributed to parents through primary schools.
Wendy Thorogood, designated nurse consultant for children with NHS Dorset CCG, said: “We are not asking people to stop drinking alcohol once they have children, just be mindful that children are in increased danger when not cared for properly.
“If you are under the influence of alcohol you may find it more difficult to react to a situation where your child or a child in your care is in danger.
“This could be from a variety of everyday hazards such as hot surfaces and sharp objects or the alcohol itself which can be poisonous for the very young.”
